Dr. Eugene Edward Hembree, Jr., 80, of Asheville, died Tuesday, December 14, 2020, at the John F. Keever Solace Center. He was born on August 14, 1940 in Charleston, SC, a son to the late Eugene Edward Hembree, Sr. and Eliza Elkins Jones Hembree. He was married for 56 years to the late Belle Dean Hembree.
Dr. Hembree worked as an Obstetrician in Gastonia, NC, having delivered over 5000 babies in his career. He was a graduate of McClenghan High School, Florence SC, and The Citadel and the Medical University of South Carolina, both of Charleston, SC, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He and his wife retired to Asheville, NC, in 2002.
Dr. Hembree is survived by his daughter, Nancy Hembree Flynn of Los Gatos, CA; one grandson, Ethan Channing Flynn; and sisters, Ruth Hembree Barnett (Thomas) and Mildred Hembree Brackett (Daniel), both of Florence, SC. He was predeceased by a son, Dean Edward Hembree.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC, on February 14, 2021.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to The American Lung Association.
