Sarah Jane (Jane) Hood Bolden, age 65 of Charleston SC, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away after her courageous battle against cancer on January 8, 2021. Jane was born on October 15, 1955 in Orangeburg SC and lived in Varnville, SC; Elizabeth City, NC; Norman, OK; and Charleston, SC. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and The Citadel with a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. Jane’s passion for life was teaching children. She began her career at Hampton Elementary School and taught at J.K. Gordin Elementary, Marrington Elementary, MenRiv Park Elementary and Ashley Hall where she retired in 2018 after 22 years of service. She touched the heart of many children with her magical teaching which included Emily the Monkey, bird watching, Flat Samantha and her travels, story baskets, the fairy garden and fairy dust, zen garden and mindfulness, heart shaped rocks and most importantly her love for books. Jane was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend. Jane is survived by her husband Michael Vincent Bolden and their daughters, Sarah Ann Bolden and Amanda Jane Bolden, and grandson Bo Bolden of Charleston SC; her parents William C Hood and Barbara G. Hood of Edisto SC; her sister Julie Hood (Randy Batson and children Wesley and Kaylee and families) Charleston SC and William Charles (Chip) Hood, Jr of Clemson SC and her sweet dogs Jack, Andie and Max. The family would like to thank the excellent care from Dr. David Ellison and the staff at the Charleston Cancer Center and Crescent Hospice Care staff and her wonderful friends who were such a support to Jane and her family. Memorials may be made to: Water Missions or to Ashley Hall or a school of your choice for library books and other collections to inspire elementary school students. Jane was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church on Edisto Island. The family will have a private service for her with plans for a Celebration of Jane’s life for her extended family and friends later this year.
