Weyman F. Webb, age 81, died Saturday, July 4, 2020. Born in Saluda County on 22 July, 1938, he was the son of the late Frederick Boulware and Hortense Johnson Webb. He was the grandson of the late Benjamin F. and Bennie Griffith Webb and the late Will Piper and Elizabeth Bowers Johnson. With his parents he was co-owner of Webb’s Farm Service and Saluda Ice Company. Mr. Webb attended elementary school in Wagner, S.C. and had many fond memories of those days. He graduated from Saluda High School in 1956 and graduated from the Citadel in 1960. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army Reserves. He rarely talked of his time in Vietnam. He served in intelligence and requested to be relieved from his desk job in order to join in the field combat. He told of lying on the floor of a helicopter, hanging out the door with a pair of binoculars to trace the enemy. He earned the following medals: Bronze Star Medal, Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, Two Overseas Bars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 60 device) and the Vietnam Service Medal. Mr. Webb was part of a dying breed; a true southern gentleman whose word was his bond and whose handshake was better than a written contract. The best that can be said of one upon their passing is that he was a good man, and the world has indeed lost a good man. He was a member of the Saluda County Historical Society, the Sons of American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He enjoyed genealogical research on the Webb family after he retired. Surviving are daughters, Andrea W. Workman of Panama City, Florida and Susanna W. (Brandon) Bergenroth of Hillsborough, N.C., grandchildren, Holden and Molly Bergenroth of Hillsborough, N.C.; sisters, Frances E. Webb of Riverview, Florida, Alice (Everette) Wright of Winter Garden, Florida and brother, Wm Frank (Susan) Webb of Clemson, S.C. He was the uncle to seven nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late Thomas E. (Dyan) Webb of Greenwood, S.C. Also, Mr. Webb is survived by good friend, Colette Forrest Dragoo. A graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Saluda County Historical Society and specify the Bonham House Fund, P.O.
