Frank John Cuda, 87, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Born on February 26, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Frank was the son of the late Frank Cuda and Rose Cuda. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Frank earned his bachelor’s degree from Charleston Southern University and later earned his master’s degree in education from The Citadel.
For 64 wonderful years, Frank shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Miriam Faith Cuda.
Frank’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness, encouragement, and support touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a passionate educator and coach; Frank dedicated his life to shaping the lives of young people both in the classroom and on the field. Throughout his distinguished career in education, he served numerous leadership roles, including Principal of Alston Junior High School. His influence extended far beyond academics, as he became a respected and beloved coach throughout Lowcountry.
Frank made history as the first soccer coach at Summerville High School and served as varsity basketball coach and football coach there. His coaching career additionally included positions at Charleston Southern University, known at the time as The Baptist College, The Walker School, and Pinewood Preparatory School. Through athletics, he mentored countless students, teaching them the importance of teamwork, character, and leadership. Many of those he coached remained grateful for his guidance long after their playing days had ended. He also dedicated years of service to the Dorchester School District Two School Board.
He is survived by his loving wife, Miriam “Faith” Cuda; his children: Perry Cuda, Tammy Heil (AJ), and Doak Cuda; as well as his grandchildren: Yves Cuda, Soren Cuda, Cade Cuda, Brennen Cuda, Tristen Cuda, and Jacob Heil. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 6pm until 8pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00am in the funeral home Chapel.
Burial will immediately follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485.
