Mark Abbett, of Buzzards Bay, Mass., beloved husband, father, Pop Pop, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Born in New York City on October 3, 1941, he was a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, SC, and worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 30 years.
Mark was known for his deep love of family and enthusiasm for his grandchildren’s sports, events, interests and art. Mark will be remembered as someone who never lost his sense of play and joy.
He was always right there alongside his children and grandchildren, rolling around in the grass, joining in family Olympics, participating in swimming contests and happily taking part in any activity that brought everyone together.
He loved travel adventures with his wife, mystery rides with the grandkids, hanging with friends, gardening, golfing, clamming, and boating on Cape Cod.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Abbett, of 59 years, his three children Keith Abbett (Megan) of Sherborn, Kristen Durocher (Rob)and of Hopkinton and Scott Abbett (Rachel) of Fairport, New York and nine grandchildren- Kismet, Kai, Dagny, Piper, Declan, Finn Liam, Daniella and Elouisa.
Mark will be remembered for the way he truly listened to others and the compassion and care he showed to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His family will host a Celebration of Life this summer on Cape Cod.
