Francis J. Maly, of Lexington, Ky., a kind and gentle man, died on October 13, 2019. He was born on December 15, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Frank J. Maly and Grace (Pravlicek) Maly. He received his undergraduate degree from the Citadel after which he joined the US Air Force, serving in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning, he graduated from the University of Illinois School of Dentistry and later received a master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry from The University of Michigan. He served as president of the Washtenaw District Dental Society and was a member of the Bunting Study Club, the Vedder Society, the Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and a life-time member of Rotary International. He was a clinical instructor at the University of Michigan Dental School and the University of Illinois where he loved sharing his knowledge with students. He also had a private practice in Ann Arbor for forty-four years. He loved life and had a passion for the Michigan Wolverines, a good round of golf, reading, and gardening. In 1982 he married Diana and they shared many wonderful adventures together, completing everything on their bucket list. Along life’s journey he became a Methodist and loved his Church and Church family. He was a loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed by Diana and his three children: Scott (Kris), Margaret King (Charlie), and Katy (Trish) and second daughter he gained with his marriage to Diana, Lisa Disselkoen (Wes). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom will miss the laughter and fun he brought into their lives. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church Downtown Lexington, KY, followed by a reception.
