Rhett Banister Davis, 78, of Duluth, GA, former President and Consulting Engineer of Rhett Davis & Associates PC, died Wednesday morning in Lawrenceville, GA. His funeral will be 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2019, at the graveside in the Berea United Methodist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow with military honors directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Mr. Davis was born November 1, 1940, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Isaac Irving Davis and Hazel Bishop Davis. In 1962, Mr. Davis graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Following this, he earned a master’s degree in structural engineering from Lehigh University. Recognized for his accomplishments, he has been listed in International Who’s Who and Strathmore’s Who’s Who and America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading literature, listening to music, and being active within his local church. As the president of Rhett Davis & Associates PC, he was highly sought after to manage design and engineering projects. Rendering precise calculations for steel connections, stairs and handrails, his work in structural building and bridge fabrication and erection garnered him much renown. He attributed his success to his hard work and persistence, as well as the influence of the writings of Norman Vincent Peale, Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, and Earl Nightingale, especially. When Mr. Davis first moved to Bethlehem, PA, with Bethlehem Steel, he would listen to Mr. Nightingale’s radio program while driving to work. He ordered so many copies of the program from its sponsor, the Merchants National Bank of Allentown, that it began providing them to him on a weekly basis. In addition to this impression, he was thankful for the discipline he received during his time in the military serving in the US Army during Vietnam, and the support of his family. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his brothers, Buist Davis, Wynton Davis and DuBose Davis, and his sisters, Betty Wittenberg and Barbara Hyatt. Surviving are, his wife Claudia Ann Davis; two daughters, Lisa Richard of Abingdon, VA, and Lori Carver of Jonesborough, TN; two sons, Stephen Davis of Nashville, TN, and James Davis of the US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey; and seventeen grandchildren.
