Thomas Calvin Williams, 81, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Elizabeth Donaldson Williams (Betty), died Wednesday, November 7, 2018. His memorial service will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 in St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant Historic Church, 440 Whilden Street at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Tommy was born October 6, 1937 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, son of the late Gordon Williams and the late Maude E. Heffner Williams. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1956, and during that time served as class president, played baseball as a pitcher, and developed cherished friendships that carried over during his entire lifetime. He loved and treasured his classmates and never missed an opportunity to organize and attend social events that allowed them to stay in touch over the many years. Upon graduating The Citadel in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree, Tommy became headmaster at Porter Gaud in Charleston, before becoming a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). His 25 plus years with NCIS allowed him to travel the world with his family and beloved Irish Setters, before retiring and returning home to Mount Pleasant when he partnered with a dear friend to co-found Investigative Associates of Charleston, a company that administered polygraph tests and background examinations across the state. Tommy was truly a man of many talents, interests, and passions. As a skilled musician, he played the piano and passed on his love of music to his children and grandchildren. His friends and family meant everything to him, and he cherished spending time with them whether through supper clubs, events such as ROMEO (retired old men eating out), or an occasional round of golf. He was a remarkable storyteller and loved sharing stories of his world travels and adventures with all. To his family and friends, he was a true southern gentleman, exemplifying compassion and grace throughout his life. Tommy was a long-time member of St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant and sang in the choir. He and his wife of 57 years, Betty, treasured time spent with family and friends, shared a passion for animals, and entertained regularly from their home in The Groves. He is survived by two daughters, Legare W. Riano (Jorge) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Louisa Harrison (Daniel) of Midlothian, Virginia; son, Robert Gordon Williams (Marsha) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; sister, Willie W. Perry (Harry) of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Thomas Riano, Alicia Riano, Bailey Harrison, Ben Harrison, and Eliza Harrison. Memorials may be made to Moultrie High School Scholarship c/o Marianne Albrecht, MHS Scholarship Committee, 6429 Come About Way, Awendaw, South Carolina 29429 or to American Diabetes Association, Inc. 107 West Park Boulevard, Suite 220, Columbia, South Carolina 29210.
