Dr. John H. Ross, born in St. Petersburg, Florida March 7, 1926. Graduated St. Petersburg High School in 1943, where he was Captain of the football and track teams. He attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship. With World War II in progress, he joined the army and served 42 months, with 14 months overseas. He received an Honorable Discharge as 1st Lieutenant Field Artillery. He then matriculated at the Citadel where he lettered in track for 2 years. Married the former Shirley Anne Cummings of St. Petersburg, FL. He entered Northwestern University Dental School, and graduated in 1952. After graduation, completed 1 year of post graduate work at the Florida State Hospital. Began private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1953. He then created St. Petersburg™s first cleft palate team in 1954 which later became the All Children™s Speech and Hearing Clinic. Became a Diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontists. Former editor of the Florida Journal Cleft Palate Association. Member of the American Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontics, International College of Prosthodontics, Florida Dental Association, and past President of St. Petersburg Sertoma Club, past President of St. Jude™s Cathedral Parish Council, past President of St. Jude™s Cathedral School Board, past President St. Petersburg Country Club. With his wife Shirley, was a proud parent of two daughters, Terri Ross Focaracci of Lighthouse Point FL, Diane Ross of St. Petersburg FL, and five sons, Michael Ross of Asheville NC, Jack Ross of Framingham MA, Tony Ross of Bradenton FL, Mark Ross of Lakeland FL, and Arthur Ross of New Orleans LA. He was also a proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Sunday, November 4th at Brett Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 AM Monday, November 5th at Our Lady’s Chapel @ the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. Burial to follow at Royal Palm South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Speech-Language Pathology Department at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, 501 6th Ave. So., St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
