William Wade Huss, Sr., age 81, of Gastonia, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Covenant Village.
Wade was born on September 22, 1944, in Gastonia, to Webb Hunter Huss and Harriet Temple Huss. He grew up in Gastonia and graduated from Frank L. Ashley High School in 1962. He graduated from the Citadel in 1966. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army and was later promoted to captain. He was stationed in Okinawa from early 1967 to late 1969. Wade worked for Wix Corporation for 41 years, in both the Gastonia, NC, and Dillon, SC, locations.
He married Elizabeth Sherrill Rudisill on December 29, 1966, and together they shared almost 59 years of marriage.
Wade was well-loved by many, a friend to everyone. He cherished his family dearly. He was fiercely loyal, not only to his immediate family, but to extended family, friends, and co-workers. He was a great businessman, but his business prowess paled in comparison to his leadership ability. Because of this, Wade consistently took on both civic and church leadership roles. He served as a Deacon and as a Ruling Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Dillon. When they returned to Gastonia, Wade served in both church offices at First ARP Church, where he was recently given the distinction of Elder Emeritus. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and genuine charm. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Retirement enabled him to spend more time on his hobby of antiquing.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry, and his three children and their spouses: Page Curlee (husband Keith), Will Huss (wife Missy), and Elizabeth Clement (husband Justin). He has eleven grandchildren: Milly Curlee-Gutierrez (Brian), Wade Curlee (Mary Gates), Webb Huss, Hunter Curlee (Deidre), Campbell Norman (Sawyer), Levi Curlee, Branton Huss, John Huss Clement, Gardner Clement, Maggie Huss, and Eliza Jane Clement. He has two great-grandchildren: Elias Curlee and Guillermo Curlee-Gutierrez. He is survived by his sister, Alice Bost, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and two other siblings, Jane Benbow and Hunter Huss, Jr.
A graveside memorial will be held at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC on Friday, October 3, at 3:00 PM, followed by a visitation at First ARP Church, 317 S. Chester St., Gastonia, NC from 4:30 until 6:30 PM. A celebration of life will be held at First ARP Church on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception at the church.
In place of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Deacon Fund at First ARP Church in Gastonia.
The family would like to thank the Covenant Village community, their church community, and all of their family and friends for their love and support.
