Walter Hinson Weeks, 87, of Dunwoody GA, passed away on March 19th 2018. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday March 24th, in the Chapel at Dunwoody Baptist Church.
Walter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Era; daughter Jane; sons Paul (Donna), Ray (Terri); and grandchildren Taylor, Lillie, Brinson, Claire, Josie, and Nick. He is also survived by his brother William C. (Barbara) Weeks of Williston FL, and nephews and nieces.
Walter was born on May 1st, 1930 in Williston, FL. He graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from the Citadel in 1951, and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he earned an M.S. in biochemistry from the Medical College of South Carolina. He began his career working in the textile industry and atomic energy in South Carolina. In 1960, he transitioned into technical sales of laboratory instruments in the Washington DC area. In 1964 he and the family moved to California, and then settled in Atlanta in 1967.
Throughout his life Walter was active in supporting Christian causes, including many Baptist church ministries, and also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He loved to sing, and in retirement sang with Dunwoody Baptist’s Heartstrings choir. He also enjoyed adventurous travel his whole life, and meeting people of all cultures, including friends he made with ESOL ministry.
