Steven Mack “Steve” Pittman, 61, of Raleigh, passed away March 9, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Cook; children Tara Pittman (Matthew) Van Brocklin of Manassas, VA, Casandra Rae Pittman and Jade Michael Pittman of Dayton, Ohio; mother, Barbara Ellen Pittman; brother, Greg Pittman (Louann) of Raleigh; nieces, Kaley Pittman and Ashleigh (Michael) DaGrosa, sisters Melissa (Scott) Whiting and Sonya (Adam) Guthrie, all of Raleigh, NC, and his four legged children, Major Applewhite and Sparkles; and many loving and devoted friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Mack Ollen Pittman and a brother, Blake Pittman.
Steve graduated from the Citadel with a degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to serve in the U.S Air Force for nearly 16 years where he achieved the rank of Major. During his military career, he served in the Gulf War, and participated in various humanitarian missions. After his retirement from the US Air Force, he worked as a Project Manager for Brown & Root and Carter Burgess. He then went on to serve as a Deputy Airport Director, Facilities, Engineering and Maintenance for the Raleigh Durham Airport Authority for over 10 years. He had a passion for traveling the world and experiencing various cultures. Steve was a true handy man and was able to build or fix anything. He loved working on various home improvement projects. His love for his family and friends will be greatly missed.
A private memorial service was held on March 17, 2018 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home. Burial took place in Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
