John Henry Brunjes III, of Wrightsville Beach and Scotts Hill, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Davis Health Care from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Wilmington, December 27, 1937 the son of the late John Henry Brunjes, Jr. and Abbey Foy Brunjes Anger. John grew up in Charleston, SC and graduated from the Citadel with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He attended Wilmington College for a degree in Education and received his Master’s Degree in Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. He taught math and science at New Hanover High School for 30 years and was a youth soccer coach for many years in New Hanover County, and also served in the Coast Guard Reserve for several years. John loved sailing at the Carolina Yacht Club, hunting with his buddies, wood carving, canoeing, walking the Loop, and building things for his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catherine O’Brien Brunjes (Kitty), his sons, John H. Brunjes IV and wife Terri and Joseph O’Brien Brunjes and wife Rachel, and one granddaughter Lily Grace Brunjes. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church ,with Pastor Jeff Roberts officiating, followed by a reception time in Lee Hall. The family would like to extend their special thanks to his many caregivers over the last two years ending with Davis Nursing Center and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
