Charlton John “CJ” Nettles, Jr., of Kenner LA, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Kenner, LA at the age of 89. He was born June 25, 1928 in Jackson, MS. Son of the late Charlton “John” Nettles, Sr. and Florence Aline Oglesby Nettles Boyd. Husband of the late Fay Mary Nettles. Loving father of Victoria N. Swearingen, the late Terri Nettles, and Dana N. Faith-Page (Bryan). Stepfather of Deborah Brown. Beloved grandfather of Kristen S. Small, Travis Faith, and Trevor Faith. Step grandfather of Charlie Brown. Brother of Eugene Nettles and the late Paul Nettles. Also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, and 3 nephews. He will be dearly missed by his special care givers: Anne Marie, Lisa, Debbie, and Alicia. CJ graduated with honors from the Citadel, a military college in South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Army where he received a World War II Victory Medal and then served as a Second Lieutenant in the South Carolina National Guard. He is a former Chief of Operations for the Army Corp of Engineers and a former Chief Administrative Officer for the East Jefferson Levee District. He enjoyed his days as a Boy Scout Leader and was an avid softball player and fisherman. Family and friends are welcomed to attend a Graveside Service at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
