Richard “Richie” Bruce Frankel, 75, of Las Vegas, passed away April 16, 2017, at his home, in Las Vegas, from metastatic melanoma, with his beloved wife, June, by his side. Richard was born July 16, 1941, in New Haven, Conn., to Abraham and Pearl Frankel, who preceded him in death in 1989 and 1997. He spent his childhood boating, fishing, raising and training dogs, shooting pool and watching his favorite sport teams, the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and New York Giants football, in New Haven. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1959 and then attended the Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel, with five friends who all thought it would be “fun.” Richie, but not his friends who “left” after not having “fun,” graduated with the class of 1963 with a degree in Business Administration. During his professional life, Richie worked for several oil companies before joining his father’s company, Display Advertising LLC, which he ran for 41 years. Richard found his soul mate, June, vacationing in Puerto Rico and they married Sept. 1, 1968. They eventually settled amongst friends and family in Connecticut, where they lived for 23 years, raising two boys, before moving to Las Vegas in August 1998. Besides his many friends and extended family, Richard is survived by June; two sons, David and Paul, and their wives, Elena and Kimberly; and four adoring grandchildren, Sebastian, Calliope, Abigail and Joselyn. Richard especially enjoyed cruising with June, playing tennis and cards, attending shows on and off the Strip, listening to his favorite sports radio show, “Mike and the Mad Dog,” and his favorite spicy seafood pasta. Among some of Richie’s favorite quotes and phrases his family will remember and miss include, “You can’t teach speed” and “field gold.” The family wishes to express special thanks to the wonderful care provided by Nathan Adelson Hospice.
