Wayne Thomas Best, 60, of Moncks Corner, SC, a retired roadway design engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, died Saturday morning at a North Charleston hospital. His funeral will be 6:00 PM Tuesday evening, April 11, 2017, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30 PM until the hour of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Doc Williams SPCA, 2673 S. Live Oak Dr., Moncks Corner, SC 29461, or to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406. Mr. Best was born December 27, 1956, in Honolulu, HW, a son of CWO4 Dean Best, US Army, Ret., and Virginia Parker Best. He was of the Episcopal faith and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Mr. Best also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and the beach, and was a true animal lover. He was a graduate of The Citadel Class of 1979 where he received his degree in civil engineering. Surviving are, his wife, Susan Hamilton Best; three sisters, LTC Marcia B. Muzinich, US Army, Ret., and her husband, Michael, of Hilton Head, Deborah Best of Southern Pines, NC, and Courtney B. Bailey of Raleigh, NC; a nephew, Logan Bailey; and his seven cats.
