Thomas Dillard Darby, of Tampa, FL, passed away on March 15, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Eunice Steichen Darby, and his eldest son, Thomas David Darby. He is survived by his son Donald William Darby (wife Patty), his daughter Deborah Darby Johnson (husband John) eight grandchildren Erica Darby Solliday, Amy Darby, Sean Johnson, Amanda Darby, Katelyn Johnson, Thomas D Darby, Dylan Johnson and Drew Johnson and 6 great-grandchildren. Thomas was born in Columbia, SC on August 3rd, 1925. He met and married his wife Eunice in her hometown of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin while serving in the military. Thomas returned to SC to receive his undergraduate degree from the Citadel in 1952 and earned two degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina, a masters in Pharmacology 1954 and a PhD in 1957. Tom and Eunice lived many places throughout his career: Charleston, South Carolina, New Orleans, LA, Morgantown, WV, Waukeegan, IL, Louisville KY, and Libertyville, IL before returning to SC to finish his career by helping to launch the Medical School at the University of South Carolina. Tom retired to Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms, SC and he and Eunice enjoyed many happy years there. In 2000, Tom and Eunice moved to Tampa to be close to family and enjoyed many years with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It made them very happy when their granddaughter Amy moved to Tampa and joined the group. Thomas will be interred next to his wife on April 1, 2017 at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The ceremony is limited to family per Tom’s wishes. While we will miss them both very much, we are happy that they are together. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
