Jacob Henry Andell Osterkamp, 85, of Melbourne, FL, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, at Hospice Care Center of Ormond Beach, FL. Henry was born May 27, 1931 in Godwin, NC, the son of Hubert and Sarah Elizabeth Osterkamp. In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mildred Heaton Osterkamp, daughter Karen Osterkamp, brothers Hubert (Mella) and Peter (Bonnie) Osterkamp. Henry and Mildred, childhood sweethearts, were married on John’s Island, SC on December 29, 1950. Henry enlisted in the Marine Corps and was a combat veteran of the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Henry attended the Citadel, graduating in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He and Mildred moved to Eau Gallie, FL where he began his career as an electrical engineer with the Boeing Company. Henry worked on NASA Space Programs at the Kennedy Space Center that included Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and the Space Shuttle. He also worked throughout the country updating Minuteman Missile launch sites. Henry retired as a manager in 1994 after 36 years with Boeing. He was a founding member of the Palmdale Presbyterian Church in Melbourne, FL, a 32 degree Mason, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Henry is survived by his son, Henry Osterkamp, Jr. (Cathy), daughter, Annette Nolan, sister, Franziska Templeton (Jack), grandchildren, Sarah Anderson (Chad), Christopher Osterkamp (Shea), Emily, Graham, and Alex Nolan, great grandchildren Morgan Anderson, and Malikai Ferrell, sister-in-law Bonnie Osterkamp and Francis Davis (Odell), brother-in-law Pinckney Heaton (Betty), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving visitors at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home on 232 Calhoun St. Charleston, SC on Friday, February 24, 2017 between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Johns Island Presbyterian Church 2550 Bohicket Rd. John’s Island,SC on February 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
