Francis Monroe Curtis, of Anderson, formerly of Greenville, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017.
Born on June 24, 1921, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of the late James Edwin Curtis and the late Gertrude Dye Curtis. He graduated from The Citadel in 1944. He served in the Army as Infantry Officer in World War II. He was stationed in Europe with the 65th Division, 3rd Army. On April 10, 1948, he was married to Blanche DesChamps McLeod formerly of Hartsville, SC.
He was a retired sales representative at Industrial Packaging Supplies. He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, SC. He was a mason, a member of American Legion #3, a member of The Saint Andrews Society, and several associations at The Citadel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Blanche McLeod Curtis. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Curtis Stanley and her husband Bob of Durham, NC and a son, James Randolph Curtis and his wife, Janie of Anderson. Grandchildren are James Randolph Curtis, Jr. and his wife, Ginny, Nancy Curtis Keller and her husband, Philip, of Anderson, Frances Stanley McClintock and her husband Pete of Chapel Hill, NC, and Virginia Stanley Jenkins and her husband Allen of Raleigh, NC. Great grandchildren include Mary Virginia Curtis, Katherine Rice Curtis, James Randolph Curtis III, Claire Virginia McClintock, Charlotte Curtis McClintock, James Harrison Jenkins, Robert Carter Jenkins, Hattie James Keller and Max Monroe Keller.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family will receive friends at the mortuary following the service. The family is at the home of Janie and Jim Curtis.
