Michael Downey Givan, Sr., 71, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born on March 20, 1953, in Charlotte, NC, Michael was a proud graduate of The Citadel, and dedicated over 50 years of his life to building a successful career in Charleston.
Michael’s Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.
As the owner of Ben Franklin Post and Print, he exhibited remarkable talent in computer technology, graphics, and design, providing exceptional service to his loyal customers and earning the respect of local businesses throughout the years.
Michael was known not only for his professional skills, but also for his passions and interests. He found immense joy in embracing the ever-evolving world of technology, constantly honing his craft to meet the creative needs of his clients. His legacy encompasses not only his business accomplishments but also the kindness and support he offered to those around him.
He is survived by his loving son, Michael Downey Givan, Jr. (Katrina), and adored daughter Ashley A. Gallagher (Shane); and his beloved sisters, Tara Givan Davis (Tom) and Kitt Givan Wise(Perry).
Michael was also proud grandfather to William, Henry, Patrick, Sean, and Kiera, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother Alexander Ross Givan, mother Dorothy Ross Givan, and father Dan Downey Givan.
Michael’s memory will cherished by his family and friends, as well as the many lives he touched through his work and personal connections.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his love for Charleston, and his unwavering support of his family and friends.
