Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel John Lester Hosey, 73, entered into rest peacefully, surrounded by his family after a long illness, on Saturday, November 9, 2024. John was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 4, 1951 to William B and Agnus (Anne) Hosey.
John was a loving husband for 52 years to Kay Clodfelter Hosey. He is survived by his daughters, Caroline M. Vickery (Robby) of Charlotte, NC and Priscilla A. Gunter (Cale) of Stapleton, GA; surviving grandchildren, Jonathan Driggers, Benjamin Driggers (Bree), and Tyler Vickery; surviving great-grandchildren, Delilah, Teddy, and Hazel Driggers, and Mica Driggers; also survived by John is his niece, Laura M. Jones (Bob and children); and cousin, Fiona Duncan. John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnus (Anne) Hosey, as well as his sister, Diane H. Howell, aunt, Laura Duncan, and uncle, Bruce Duncan.
John, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from Druid Hills High School, and later from University of South Carolina (BA), and The Citadel (MBA). John was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as Lieutenant Colonel. He worked as a civilian for many years in finance, serving as Chief Financial Officer for Charleston Southern University (formerly Baptist College), Southern Polytechnic State University (formerly Southern College of Technology), and Schreiner University. Before retiring, John founded and served as President of JLH Consulting, LLC.
To know John was to know how much he loved his family. He would spend many summers boating with his family and friends on Lake Lanier, located in Gainesville, GA. He was also known for his quick wit and charisma. He will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him, personally and professionally.
John’s family will hold a Celebration of Life on January 4, 2025 in Sun City Carolina Lakes, at The Lakehouse from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Fort Mill, SC, located at 1353 Del Webb Blvd Indian Land, SC 29707.
