Thomas Olin Monts III, of Saluda, NC, is no longer suffering from fighting the battle against cancer. He went to heaven to be with Jesus on Friday, October 14, 2016. He was a strong Christian man, serving on the Saluda UMC Pastor-Parish committee and volunteering at the weekly Welcome Table. A 1992 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, and a Summerall Guard, he was an avid Bulldog sports fan, always ready for a good game. He volunteered regularly for the WNC Citadel Club, even serving a term as their club president. A young boy at heart, he was fascinated with heavy equipment, making that his adult career choice. Most recently, he owned his own business, Allgood Logistics, for which he managed many a load of heavy equipment. He named his company after one of his favorite college bands. He loved listening to music and going to see a good concert. He also enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and ultimate Frisbee. He was happy to live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and to be a part of the Saluda community for two decades.
But his top priority was always his family. He was married to his college sweetheart, Sonya Barrineau Monts, for twenty years. Together, they shared the joy of having two beautiful, smart and talented children. He was an amazing father to his 16 year old son Henry Thomas, and his 11 year old daughter, Clara Elizabeth. He was at every tennis match and every dance concert. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Jerry Thomas; his father and stepmother, Tom and Terry Monts; his adoring sister, Elizabeth Monts; and countless extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Olin and Grace Monts; and his maternal grandparents, Hayden and Virgina Grayson. A celebration of his life that impacted so many will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Saluda United Methodist Church. In Lieu of flowers and food, the family request that his life be honored by donating a memorial to Cancer Care of WNC(An Affiliate of Mission Health), or The Citadel Foundation (Class of 1992), or Saluda United Methodist Church.
