Vaughn Eugene “Gene” Turner II, 45, of Dillsburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 7, 2016 at home. Born August 8, 1970, in Washington DC, he was the son of Vaughn & the late Rosemary (Gerardi) Turner. Mr. Turner was a ’92 graduate of the Citadel, Military College of South Carolina and a US Army veteran having served in the United States Army Reserves for 9 years. Gene also served his country in 2003 when he was hired on contract by Blackwater to serve in Iraq with his K-9 partner, trained in bomb detection, as part of the Ambassador Bremer detail. Gene was a member of East Shore Baptist Church but had been attending Country & Town Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg since moving to Dillsburg and was a great man of faith. He was an alumnus and lifetime member of the Citadel. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and canning, and loved playing lacrosse and softball with his children. He also loved to share his Faith in Christ and would lend a shoulder to any friend, or stranger, he felt was in need. In his younger years he participated in sports, 4-H and farming. He had worked as a K-9 Police Officer for Harrisburg City, Cumberland County, and ended his Law Enforcement career working in the Narcotics Unit for the PA State Attorney General. Following that, he worked as a pharmaceutical representative where he was recognized as being one of the top 5 in the country for his company. Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 16 years, Jami L. (Cassner) Turner; son, Caleb Turner; daughter, Sarah Turner; sister, Kristen (Turner) Fulton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a sister, Jennifer Turner. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 1:00 PM at East Shore Baptist Church, 6721 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112 with Pastor John Toone officiating. Private family viewing from 11a-12:00 P.M. Public viewing will be held from 12-1:00 PM with funeral service to follow from 1-2:00 PM. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or SPIKES K-9 FUND.ORG.
