Charles Green Turner, Jr., 89 of The Plains, VA passed away on July 9, 2016 at his home. He was born on April 30, 1927 in Charleston, SC a son of the late Charles G. Turner, Sr. and Lelia Friend Turner. His family lived on Combahee Plantation, Whitehall, SC which his father managed for the owner, A. Felix DuPont. He attended public school in Colleton, County, SC and then graduated from Porter Academy in Charleston. He graduated from The Citadel in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. In his professional life he worked for E. I. duPont, in Seaford, DE as a cost Accountant, the O’Sullivan Rubber Company in Winchester, VA as a Purchasing Agent, Comptroller and Advertising Manager. He then owned and operated Turner Oil Company, The Plains, VA from 1961 until 1992. Always active in his community and church, Mr. Turner served in many ways including Chairman, Fauquier County Development Authority; Past Vice-President, Fauquier Chamber of Commerce; Past Board Member, Virginia Petroleum Oilmen’s Association in Richmond, VA; Fauquier County Republican Committee, Fauquier County Appraisal Board and past Chairman of Fauquier National Bank Advisory Board, and Fauquier Lions Club. At Grace Episcopal Church in The Plains he was a Past Senior Warden, Trustee and Treasurer for 15 years of the Region 13 Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. In 1993, he was named Man-of-the-Year by The Plains Business Men’s Association and Fauquier Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Turner’s memberships included Ducks Unlimited, Warrenton, VA, Wild Turkey Federation, Ruffled Grouse Society, Fauquier Historical Society, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Goose Creek Association, Piedmont Environmental Council, English Speaking Union, South Carolina Preservation Society, Carolina Yacht Club and St. Cecilia Society both in Charleston, SC. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Sabin Turner; two children, Lisa Aiken Turner and Charles Green Turner, III; and three grandchildren, John Carter Morgan, III, Savannah Green Morgan, and Charles Green Turner, IV. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 11 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains. Interment will be private at Little Georgetown Cemetery.
