William M. Harris, 86, of Weddington, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2016.

He was born in Charlotte on March 25, 1930 to the late James Robert and Vera Miller Harris. Bill was also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Harris and daughter, Sherrie Killough-Woodwell.

Mr. Harris was lifetime member of Dilworth United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir most of his life and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends there.

Mr. Harris graduated from Central High School and attended the Citadel. He later severed in the Air Force during the Korean War . He owned and operated, Harris and Rowe Fire and Casualty Insurance Company for many years. He was a member of Charlotte Kiwanis for over 50 years.

Bills interests included history, travel, stain glass, gardening, firearms, restoring automobiles and flying.

Mr. Harris is survived by his 3 sons and their wives; a son-in-law, 4 grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank all of his friends from Dilworth United Methodist who sent cards, phoned and visited during the past year. Also, we would like to thank all of Bills caregivers, especially Candice, Taris, Kim and Susan as they truly filled his days with conversation, companionship, support and transitioning. Thank you to our Hospice of Union County nurse Chandra for her support and compassion.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Dilworth UMC, 605 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203.

A service to celebrate Bills life will be held at 11AM on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Dilworth U.M.C. His graveside service will be held later in the day at 1:30PM at Forest Lawn East Cemetery with military honors.
