Speros N. Drake, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 25, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street at 12:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Speros was born July 19, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Nicholas J. Drake and Xeni V. Drake. He attended Charleston High School and graduated from The Citadel in 1957 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Speros accepted employment with the Sperry Gyroscope Company located in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY as a Field Engineer. Later he served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. In 1963, Speros returned to Charleston, SC and accepted employment at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 31 years as an Electrical Engineer checking out electronic countermeasures and receivers aboard destroyers and submarines. In 1994 he accepted employment with NAVELEX (later named SPAWAR) in North Charleston for twelve years and retired in 2006.
Speros was a long standing, faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and served on the Parish Council. He assisted with the Greek Festival for many years from its beginning in 1970.
Speros is survived by his sister, Mrs. Mary D. Perry of Charleston, SC; brother, Chris N. Drake (CharlAnn) of Lake Lanier, GA; goddaughter, Mrs. Mary K. Luckey (Alan); niece, Mrs. Catherine Weir (Owen); nephew, William J. Perry (Sheilah) and many grand-nieces and nephews.
