Richard D. “Dick” Gerhard, 89, of Abington, Pa., died peacefully on December 21, 2023, in the Horsham Care Center in North Wales, PA.
Dick was born on April 10, 1934, in New York City, NY, to the late Harold and Dorothy (nee Dobson) Gerhard.
Richard graduated from Military High School in 1951 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel in 1955. After he completed his service in the Army, he began his career as a financial officer before retiring in 1995.
He was best known for his love of cars, reading the newspaper, attending flea markets, and spending time with friends and family. He spent several years as a member of the Union League of Philadelphia.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ursula F. (nee Fleming) Gerhard of Abington, PA, and his devoted sons Richard Gerhard and his wife Kathy, and Michael Gerhard and his wife Dina. He was the loving grandfather to Megan Vitelli, Samantha Gerhard, Sarah and Ryan Gawens, Amber Baxter, and Danielle Gerhard. He was preceded in death by his dear daughter, Lynn-Marie Gawens, in 1996.
Relatives and friends are invited to call after 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler. A funeral service will follow, with Chaplain Pat Cashman officiating at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA.
