Frank Pierce Hill, Jr. died at his home on Signal Mountain, Tenn., July 5, 2023.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1931, in Newberry, SC. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Citadel and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from M.I.T. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After a more than 40-year career at Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga, he retired as Director of Nuclear Component Engineering. He was a long-time member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Pierce Hill and Nan Boozer Hill, and granddaughter, Caitlyn Weems. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Sue Connelly Hill; children, Dr. Russell Hill (Lynne) and Mark Hill (Nancy) of Signal Mountain, Susan Hill Whitson (John) of Conyers, GA, and Carolyn Hill Weems (Billy) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Christi Weems Lion (Mike), Nathan Whitson, Beamer Weems (Lauren), Melissa Whitson Kucsera (Ross), Dr. Abby Hill (Chris Hopkins), Brian Weems (Jessica), Blake Whitson (Holly), Matthew Hill, Brittany Whitson Patterson (Drew), Katie Hill Roehrs (Ben), Daniel Whitson, and Connelly Weems; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Signal Crest United Methodist Church, 1005 Ridgeway Avenue, Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377 on Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Dave Graybeal and Bill Thornton officiating.
Visitation with family and friends will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Signal Crest UMC. Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
