John Elford Morgan, 76, of Charlotte, NC, died on July 8, 2023. John was born on November 1, 1946, in Spartanburg, SC, the fourth child of William Stuart Morgan and Mildred Collins Morgan. The family moved to Elizabethtown, NC, in 1947, where John graduated from Elizabethtown High School with the Class of 1965.
John attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC, earning a BS in Mathematics in 1969. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force before obtaining an MBA from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1976.
John started a career in civil aviation, working for Texas Air and Continental Airlines, before moving to Charlotte, NC, and working for Piedmont Airlines, later US Airways, until his retirement.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Major William Stuart Morgan, Jr., USMC (Ret.) and his oldest sister Nancy Morgan Brown. He is survived by his very close sister Maria Morgan Elmore and his beloved nieces and nephews.
John valued his friends and family and took comfort and direction from his daily reading of the Bible. He was kind, generous and always looked for the very best in others.
A casual “Celebration of Life” honoring John will be held July 30th at 6pm at Carson’s Pond Club House, 5160 Carson’s Pond Road in Charlotte. A Memorial Service will be held August 12th at 1pm at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, 800 West Broad Street, Elizabethtown, NC. A reception will follow the service.
