John F. Candage, 77, of Wyckoff, N.J., passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, after courageously battling the effects of Glioblastoma for nine years.
John was born in San Diego, CA, to Margaret and Harold Candage. He graduated high school in Springfield, Illinois, and received a degree in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel, Charleston, SC. He worked for Bunker Ramo at Cape Canaveral and in Viet Nam, and at Magnavox, Singer-Kearfott, BAE Systems and ITT.
John was a kind, soft spoken and gentle soul who will be dearly missed by all of his family and dear friends. John loved traveling (especially to Italy, Aruba, and CA Wine Country) and his prized wine collection.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Blanche, his beloved daughters, Laura Gravenstine and Jennifer (Bryan) Wuester, two grandchildren, Ryan Elizabeth (Sam) Marsh and Matt Wuester, and sister, Connie (Bill) Boehlert, and several nieces and a nephew. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Bob Landzettel and sister-in-law, Joyce Parodi, as well as many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, David, and sister, Betty Casper.
Special thanks to Dr. Anthony D’Ambrosio and Laurie Smith, RN, and to Dr. Ingo Mellinghoff and Paul Girdler, RN, for supporting John and Blanche during this long journey. Also to every one of the Holland Christian Home staff for the compassionate and loving care of John during the last 18 months.
Visitation will be from 9:00am am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 1, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
Prayer service to follow visitation at 11am. Interment of ashes Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
