Constan “Gus” D. Pappas, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 28, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with Trisagion service at 6:00 p.m. Constan was born February 4, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late Demos Pappas and Mary Kirlaki Pappas. Gus was a graduate of Charleston High School, Clemson University and The Citadel Military College of SC, and served in the Unites States Army in 1946. Gus worked for the U.S. Department of Customs for 30 years and retired in 1980. Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan and tennis player. He was also a devoted caregiver of his special needs sister, Penelope “Poppy” Pappas. He was a lifetime member of the Greek Orthodox Church and longtime member of the choir. In his later years, Gus found great joy in his church, his family and his friends. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Elizabeth Stoe; son-in-law, Timothy A. Stoe; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Sommer Stoe, and Paul Iler Stoe, all of Summerville, SC; two cousins, Anthoula Jager (Charles) of Greenville, SC, and Maria Bornhorst (David) of Charleston, SC; and Godsons, Nick Corontzes and Denny Remington, both of Charleston, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
