Donald Frank Bellek, of Chicago, died Oct. 2, 2015. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC, in 1959 with a BS degree in electrical engineering. He served in the US Army for 16 years. From 1960 to 1963, Bellek served in Kinzingen, Germany, with the 41st Artillery. Prior to his assignment in Vietnam, he attended the Defence Language Institute and spoke fluent German and Vietnamese. His advisory duties were those of a senior advisor at the district in the southern Mekong Delta. Bellek was assigned a second time to Vietnam. After Vietham, he was assigned to the US Military Assistance Command Thailand and Join US Military Advisory Group in Bangkok, Thailand, from Feb. 1971 to June 1973. Bellek was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement, the Gallantry Cross Award, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Award of the Legion of Merit. After leaving active duty, he studied hotel administration in Las Vegas and became director of purchasing at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel and Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
Bellek is survived by his wife, Eva Bellek.
