Dr. David St. Pierre Asbill, Jr., 86, of Ridge Spring, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016. Born to the late Dr. David St. Pierre and Pauline Porter Asbill in New York City, he was married to Betty Glover Asbill. Dr. Asbill was an Eagle Scout, who graduated from The Citadel as valedictorian in 1951 and from Duke Medical School in 1955. Practicing as an ophthalmologist in Columbia, he enjoyed helping people until his retirement. In addition to his wife, Dr. Asbill is survived by his daughters, Sharon Hodge (John) of Columbia, Dianne Stephenson (Tom) of Greenville, Alice Lutz of Tega Cay; grandsons, John Hodge II of Baltimore, MD, David Hodge of Columbia, Allen Stephenson of Greenville; granddaughters, Laney Pilhar (Stefan) of Greenville, Renee Lutz of Tega Cay; and great-grandson, Paul Pilhar of Greenville. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachael Lutz of Tega Cay. A service for Dr. Asbill will be held at one o’clock Saturday, February 6th at St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Jill Zook-Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A private family burial will be held in Ridge Spring Cemetery.
