Clarence John Pridgeon, 65, and his beloved dog Huit, died at his home in Beulah “God’s Country” Wyoming on December 15, 2015. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on December 20, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming with numerous friends and relatives in attendance. Clarence John Pridgeon was born on December 27, 1949, in Newcastle, Wyoming, to John E. “Jack” Pridgeon and Clarice (Thompson) Pridgeon. He attended schools in Upton and Moorcroft, Wyoming, graduating in 1968 from Moorcroft High School. His continuing education included an Associates of Arts Degree from Casper College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Arizona (Tucson), and later a Master of Arts Degree in Education from the prestigious Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1974, he married Cindy Stewart of Moorcroft and they later divorced but remained lifelong friends. John taught in the History Department of the Goose Creek High School in Charleston, South Carolina for 30 years. During his tenure there he was named Department Head of the History Department, and was selected as Teacher of the Year on several occasions. He was named to “Who’s Who in American Teacher’s numerous times. He worked with Honors Students, Gifted and Talented Students and the Berkley County Forensic Team. John was loved and revered by his students and piers. He was mentioned in the Salutatory and Valedictory Addresses at most graduations. John had a passion for education, and dedicated his life to this field. He empowered his students not only to learn but to live, experience and love history. After his retirement, John came back to his Wyoming roots in Beulah, Wyoming. There he enjoyed the solitude and serenity of the Black Hills with his family. John was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Dale Pridgeon, and his partner of over twenty years, Bruce Kauffman. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Clarice Pridgeon of Beulah, Wyoming, his brothers, Richard (Randy) Pridgeon of Sundance, Wyoming, Bill (Elaine) Pridgeon of Beulah, Wyoming, Hank Pridgeon of Wright, Wyoming and a sister, Nancy Jennings of Gillette, Wyoming. A memorial has been established to the Crook County Family Violence and Sexual Assault Services in Sundance, Wyoming. Happy sailing John and Huit on your adventure to join Bruce and Quetzel.
