Alfred Gaillard Ellison, Jr. died early Saturday morning. Born in Lancaster, SC on October 21, 1918, he was the son of Corinne Thompson Ellison and A. G. Ellison, Sr. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Sederis Lott Ellison and his two sisters, Corinne Ellison Sylvan, Louise Ellison and his brother Richard Cramer Ellison. He is survived by his daughter Dorn Ellison Scherer, J. Hamilton, of Richmond, VA and A. G. Ellison, III, Eleanor E. of Columbia, SC. Five grandchildren Van Scherer Ruffner, Sean A., of Richmond, VA., J. Hamilton Scherer, Jr. of Washington, DC, Elizabeth (Liza) Ellison Sansbury, Stephen A., A. G. (Will) Ellison, IV, Brandi, and J. Duncan Ellison all of Columbia, S.C. and five great grandchildren. Ellison attended The Citadel and graduated in 1939. He was in the 753rd Anti-Aircraft Battalion in World War II and stationed in the Pacific. He was employed by Springs Industries after graduation until retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lancaster and later one of the founders of Covenant Baptist Church also in Lancaster. After moving to Charleston he was a member of James Island Presbyterian. He loved The Citadel, to hunt, fish and play golf but mostly loved his family. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday December 2, 2015 at the Bishop Gadsden Chapel, Camp Rd, Charleston, SC. His guestbook may be signed at www.CharlestonFunerals.com.
