Dr. Jack Newton Dunn, Sr. went to be with our Lord on Friday, November 20, 2015.
Jack was born February 3, 1929 in Orangeburg, SC to the late Isaac Newton Dunn and Geraldine Oregon Kammer Dunn.
Jack attended The Citadel, The Military College of SC graduating in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He then was a graduate of The University of SC Medical School in 1960, and completed his internship in New Orleans at Charity Hospital and his residency at Tulane University. Dr. Dunn specialized in Urology and began practicing in Kingsport, TN. He and his wife moved their family to Hendersonville, NC in 1971, where Jack practiced until his retirement in 1990.
Dr. Dunn enjoyed a lifelong love of flying. He served in the Public Health Service in Alaska, flying to outposts to provide medical services to the Inuit Indians.
Jack was a loving, kind husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dr. Dunn is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Snelling Dunn; two daughters, Diane Dunn Hoover and her husband Alan of Indianapolis, IN and Sharon Richey Dunn McMillin of Charleston, SC; a son, Jack Newton Dunn, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth McDonald Dunn of Birmingham, AL; and four grandchildren, Margaret Frances “Molly” McMillin, Jack “Jay” Newton Dunn, III, Coleman McDonald Dunn, and Frances Adelaide Dunn.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Greg Williams officiating. There will be a reception for family and friends one hour prior to the service at Stall Hall. Interment will be private at Shepherd Memorial Park.
