Roy James “Jimmy” White, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 28, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was a son of the late Roy James White, Sr. and Helen Todd White, and grew up in Charlotte. Jimmy graduated from the Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he majored in Pre-Medicine and served in the elite Summerall Guard Precision Drill Team. Following graduation, Jimmy returned to Charlotte where he served alongside his father and family members at Roy White’s Flowers offering comfort, beauty and joy to many Charlotteans with his expertise in floral design. His hard work and dedication helped the shop grow to be one of the most prominent florists in the country. Jimmy always put others ahead of himself, always willing to selflessly, quietly, and tirelessly help others in their life’s endeavors, never wishing for anything in return. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. During his life, Jimmy remained close to many of his childhood, high school, and college friends. In addition to enjoying his family, friends, and work, Jimmy especially loved fishing. He fondly recalled many long weekends fishing off the pier with his children at Wrightsville Beach. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Martha; his sons, James Alan White, Christopher Bryan White and his wife, Elsje; his daughter, Jamesen McKenna White; his grandchildren, Courtney Gayle Hicks and her husband, Justin, James Brenton White, and Ashley Michelle White; and his great-grandchildren, Kenslie, Walker and Avery. He is also survived by his brother, Ed White; his sister, Margaret Blaeser, and her husband, Eric; and their children. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Hankins and Whittington Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard Alexander, Karl Clauss, Roger Neel, Bobby White, Don Bridges and Jake Shuler.
