William Stevens Marsh Jr., age 77, of Hazard, KY, passed away on Oct. 03, at his residence. He was the son of the late William Stevens Marsh and Hazel Collins Marsh.
He is survived by his wife: Jayne Abshear Marsh of Hazard, son Dr. William Stevens Marsh III and his wife Dr. Rebecca Aschbrenner Marsh of Belton, Texas and son Kenneth Leighton Marsh and his wife Deidre Moore Marsh of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is also survived by five loving grandchildren: William Stevens Marsh IV, Katherine Elizabeth Marsh, Zachary Taylor Marsh, Jonathan Leighton Marsh and Channing Rose Marsh.
He was a 1956 graduate of New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. He graduated from The Citadel, Class of 1960, “The Military College of South Carolina” in Charleston where he was commissioned upon graduation as an Officer of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War and achieved the Rank of Major before his discharge from active duty in 1970. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of VA where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1973. He was a well-known Pharmacist in eastern Kentucky for over 40 years, an avid golfer and a North Carolina Tar Heel fan. Above all he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 160 Broadway, Hazard, KY 41701.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel, visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 07, at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorial service will be at First Presbterian Church at 1 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 7, with Rev. Ellen Peach officiating. Interment will be at Quentico National Cemetery in Virgina at a later date.
