Edward Albert Storey II was born at Smokey Hill Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas on October 26, 1947, son of Air Force Pilot Major Edward Storey and his wife Alice. After graduating from Moon High in Pittsburgh, PA, Ed received his civil engineering degree at the Citadel Military Institute in Charleston, SC, and then earned his masters in engineering at the The University of Virginia. After serving in the Army, Ed headed up development and construction in many resort areas throughout South Carolina, becoming VP of Construction for Trammel Crow in Orlando, where he and his family made their home. In 1990 he founded Essex Builders Group, building multifamily residential apartments throughout Florida for 15 years. After retiring, he continued construction consulting throughout the United States. Ed was an avid and talented sportsman who played both baseball and football at The Citadel. He was a starting offensive guard at only 190 lbs. He was a top 5 nationally ranked racquetball player. He ran the NY marathon. He loved boating, tennis, jogging, hot tubbing, the beach, the mountains, and life. He was an adventurer. Most recently, he and his life long friend drove through the midwest in the original Blues Brothers Bluesmobile. Above all else, he loved his wife of 45 years, their two sons, daughter in laws, three beautiful granddaughters and his family. He gave back to the community through service work within his church and community boards, such as ONIC, and supported The Citadel and his friends. Ed fought prostate cancer for 22 years, participating in numerous clinical trials at Duke and ORMC. He was a true example of integrity and had a genuine love of life for family, friends, and all those that surrounded him. He lived life fully, was well loved and gave back generously. He was far from conventional, anything but boring, and nothing less than extraordinary. Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Winter Park on Wednesday, September 9th, beginning at 12:00 PM, reception to immediately follow.
