Michael Dallas Chalfant, of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, he was a son of the late Harry “Duke” Chalfant and Jean Viden Chalfant. Mike graduated from The Citadel in 1962 and received his Master’s in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. He flew helicopters for the S.C. National Guard and was in sales throughout his life. Mike enjoyed reading, riding horses with his wife, playing poker with his poker club, and was an avid Citadel Bulldog and Gamecock fan. Mr. Chalfant is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jackie Eadon Chalfant; his stepson, Paul Butler and his wife, Elena; his stepdaughter, Neel Lesesne and her husband, George; grandchildren, Abbie Chalfant, Bobby Harris, Lindsay Lesesne, Jay Lesense, and Tatiana Elkina. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Dallas Chalfant, Jr. He is also survived by his brother, Bobby Chalfant and Beverly Spagg of Atlanta. The family will welcome friends for a visitation and memorial service at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, SC, on Friday, May 15, 2015. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Private burial will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests that memorials in Mike’s name be made to the Humane Society of South Carolina, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209 or the Wounded Warrior Program.
