James A. Carter, Jr., of Tampa, Fla., passed away Feb. 6, 2015 in Tampa. Memorial Services will be held in the chapel of Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St., Tampa at 11 am Friday, Feb. 13. A native of Lakeland, Mr. Carter grew up in Morgantown, SC. He returned to Florida in 1987. He was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church for over twenty years and he served the church in various capacities. Mr. Carter also served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War, he was a retired Lt. Colonel, US Army Reserves at his death. Mr. Carter is survived by his two sons, James A. Jr. and Jeffrey Morgan of Tampa; a daughter-in-law, Judith Whitson; four grandchildren, James Able III, Austin Morgan, Ashley Mary, and Alexa Morgan; a brother, William H. Carter. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church General Fund.
