Fred D. MacLean, Jr., 84, died peacefully at home surrounded with family on Sunday March 29. Fred was born in Newberry, SC to the late Fred “Dutch” MacLean, Sr. and Woodie Bowman MacLean. He graduated from Porter Military Academy and The Citadel in Charleston, SC. Lieutenant Colonel MacLean retired from the Marine Corps, highly decorated, after 24 years of honorable service. After retirement, Fred served as Chief of Campus Police for both Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC and Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the Masons, Sojourners, and Sons of the American Revolution. Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjory Poulnot MacLean, formerly of Charleston, SC, their son, Chaplain (Major) Fred D. MacLean, III, U.S. Army (Retired) and daughter, Marjory MacLean Bishop, Registered Nurse; Daughter in Law, Adrianne McMahon MacLean; Grand-Children: Joanie MacLean, Jonathan MacLean, Garth Bishop, Stuart Bishop, Ian Bishop and Shannon Bishop; and Great Grand-Daughters: Brailyn MacLean and Layla Hensley. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park, FL on Thursday, April 9th at 3PM. The graveside service with Full Military Honors at U.S.Marine Corps National Cemetery in Quantico, VA will be scheduled in the near future.
