George Stanley Howard, Jr. (Budsy) age 85, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 12, 2015 after losing his long battle with cancer. Budsy was a retired civil service employee, working at the Charleston Air Force Base and the Naval Supply Center. He was a veteran of the US Army. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. George S. Howard, Jr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at The Church of The Nativity on Folly Rd. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Monday evening at the James A McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Budsy was born on November 5, 1929 in Charleston, SC, a son of Lois Hawkins Sullivan, George Stanley Howard, and stepfather Farmer Sullivan. He graduated from Charleston High School and The Citadel, Class of 1951. He was a member of The American Legion, Post 147, James Island, and a lifetime member of the Elks Club of Charleston. Surviving are his wife Clare K. Howard, a daughter, Deborah Howard Trivette of Charleston (Al), son, Bruce E. Howard of Charleston (Michelle), stepson Daniel L. Fulton of Anthem, Arizona (Betsy), a sister, Gwendolyn G. Mathews of Ponte Vedra, FL, and 7 grandchildren. Budsy was a proud graduate of The Citadel, where he was a proud member of the Summeral Guards. He loved the Citadel and when he had the opportunity, enjoyed introducing himself and conversing with current cadets. Following his graduation from the Citadel, Budsy served in the U.S. army, stationed in Germany. He was well known at the Municipal Golf Course of Charleston, being a longtime member of The Little Rascals group. Budsy was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, ready to make you laugh. He loved to give oyster roasts for his friends and family, and attend other events sponsored by golfing groups. Golfing was his passion. He attained his 40th consecutive golf tournament (Charleston City Amateur), and was honored to see his picture on the front page of the May 17, 2013 Post and Courier Sports Section. His wish is to leave a legacy (trophy) to ?the youngest golfer who has the lowest score?. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors, Father Flanagan?s Home for Boys, The Church of The Nativity, or a charity of one?s choice. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the doctor, nurses, and staff of NHC of Charleston and Caris Hospice for the loving care they provided Budsy and support of the family.
