William (Bill) H. Gardner III, of Wickenburg, AZ, died on January 19, 2015 at the age of 93 from complications of Alzheimers. He was born in Gulfport, Mississippi to Ida Daughdrill and William H. Gardner, Jr. on July 21, 1921. He graduated from McComb Mississippi High School and from the Citadel. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943. His plane was shot down in Italy. He was M.I.A., walking out through Yugoslavia to the Adriatic Sea.
He worked for the Bell System for 40 years, was Vice-President of Mountain Bell and President of Landmark Publishing for U.S. West. On retirement he was a consultant for Volt Information Sciences in New York.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mamie Jean, a son William H. Gardner IV of San Diego, CA, a daughter Jean (Paul) Kircher of Wickenburg, AZ and 4 grandchildren Hannah, Michael, William and Carson Kircher of Wickenburg, and sister Lucille Grant of Jackson, MS.
He was a member of Rotary and a Paul Harris fellow.
Services for William were held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg. In lieu of Flowers, please donate to the Citadel Foundation, Edu/ or Rotary, P.O. Box 1018, Wickenburg, AZ 85358.
