Samuel Prescott Browne, 90, of Callawassee Island passed away November 21, 2014 in Beaufort, South Carolina. At a future date to be determined, a family grave side service will be held in Sam’s hometown, Hoopeston, Illinois. Sam was born in Hoopeston, Illinois to Glenn and Forest Browne on May 25, 1924. He went to high school at Hoopeston High School and graduated in 1943. He went on to earn a degree in Business in 1947 rom The Citadel, where he was a Company Commander and the Captain of the tennis team. He worked as the President of the Fremont Company and the Milford Canning Company for over 30+ years. Sam was a hunting enthusiast, and an avid golfer and tennis player. His warm smile and quiet nature will be missed by his friends and family. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Forrest; his brother Glenn. Sam is survived by his wife Betty Jane Carroll formerly of Greenwood, SC. daughters; Jane Carroll Browne, Forrest Cataldo and Glennie Browne; son Samuel Prescott Browne Jr.; grandchildren Angela Renee Wilson, Hunter Prescott Schenk, Robert Jerome Cataldo Jr, Elizabeth Mary Cataldo, as well as several great and great great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all Sam’s friends and neighbors on Callawassee Island for their friendship, care and support throughout the years and in his final days.
