William Horace Smoak, Jr., of Columbia, SC, died Thursday at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia. He was 56. Mr. Smoak was born August 12, 1958 in Beaufort, a son of William H. Smoak Sr. and Erzebet Rez Smoak. He was a graduate of the Walterboro High School, class of 1976, and attended The Citadel for two years before transferring to the University of SC, where he received his BA in Accounting. He was a CPA for various timber companies in South Carolina, Alabama, Oregon and Indiana. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, and was an avid fan of both the Atlanta Braves and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Smoak, Sr. of Walterboro and Erzebet Rez Clough of Georgia, he is survived by his children, Dr. Monica McCutcheon (Jamie) and William Robert Smoak, both of Columbia. There are two brothers, James W. “Jamie” Smoak of Green Creek, NC and Joey Todd Smoak (Renee) of Florence, and a sister, Sandra Smoak Lawrie (George) of London. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Sam and Luke McCutcheon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home.
