George Nicholas Gianaris of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. George was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Upon graduation from The Citadel, he joined the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant and proudly served in the Korean War. George enjoyed a long successful career in Aeronautical Engineering working for companies such as Hughes Aircraft Company in California, NASA in Virginia and Lockheed Martin in Atlanta. He was married to Augustina Paskalakis Gianaris of Tarpon Springs, Florida for 43 years until her death in 1993. In 1995, he married Stephanie Scofield McGhee of Acworth, Georgia where he lived with her until his death. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Gianaris, and his son Nicholas Gianaris and his wife Audrey, daughter Angie Titus and her husband Arthur, daughter Paula Rogers and her husband Randy and daughter Georgie Gaalema and her husband Richard, grandchildren Ashley Rogers, Elizabeth Rogers, Dylan Rogers, Austin Gaalema, Olivia Gaalema, Christopher McGhee, Carrie McGhee, Valerie McGhee, Erin McGhee, Carly McGhee and Morgan Hudson. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, Georgia. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Green Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 13 at 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Roswell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in George’s memory and honor to Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
