Carl B. Casperson, of Rockaway, NJ, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. He was 82.
Born in Rockaway Twp. in 1932 to the late Carl P. and Dorothy (Kepler) Casperson, he attended Rockaway High School where he met his future wife, Rosemary (Trapasso) Casperson. Carl then attended the Citadel Military College of South Carolina where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned as officer in the U.S. Air Force.
He married his wife, Rosemary, in 1955 and together they completed his tour of duty living in Texas, Illinois and Maine. They returned to settle in Rockaway Borough where he became active in the town as President of the Board of Adjustment.
He was employed by NJ Power & Light, and later worked for the Federal Government at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover as a Civil Engineer, retiring in 1993.
Carl enjoyed skiing with his wife and four children, and playing golf at Picatinny Golf Club. He also painted some lovely water colors.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosemary; four children: Christopher Casperson and wife Pamela, Thomas Casperson, Lisa Casperson DiRenzo, and Carl J. Casperson; a sister: Irene Tierney; and brother: Art Casperson. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, who were a great source of pride to him: Matthew, Eric, CJ, Thomas, Michael, Alexandra, Paul, Noelle, Christina, Joseph, Carl Jr., Kevin and Kaylyn Casperson.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 28th at 9:00 AM from the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Cecilia Church, Rockaway at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
