Webb Jr., Dr. John Walter WEBB, DR. JOHN WALTER, JR., 86, a resident of Montgomery, AL died October 23, 2006 after an extended illness. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel Funeral Home at 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, October 26. The funeral service will be Friday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel. Internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Reverend Stanley Hartman and Bishop Paul Duffy will officiate. He was born the son of Mary Thomas Webb and J. Walter Webb, Sr. on September 18, 1920 in Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Katherine Webb Urquhart. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cecile Morgan Webb, two daughters, Maryla Elizabeth Webb and Murray Webb Bennett (Jim), one son, John Jack Walter Webb IV (Kay) and four grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Webb, Grayson Anne Webb, John Jack Flowers Bennett, and Anna Cecile Bennett. He attended Cloverdale Jr. High, Lanier and Bradenton High Schools (FL), and graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. in engineering. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he entered the University of Alabama Medical School (specializing in Internal Medicine), graduating in 1951. He did a residency in Internal Medicine at UAB for 2 years, then a Fellowship in hematology at Duke University, Durham, NC in 1954, and set up practice in Montgomery, AL in 1955. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, Alabama State Medical Association, President of the Jackson Hospital Medical Staff, and was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church. Active Pall Bearers are his nephews: Ted Urquhart, Walter Urquhart, Robin Morgan, Mac Morgan, Bob Shumaker, Karl Shumaker, and Dr. Martin Haskell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Glenn Yates, Dr. Paul Strong, Dr. James McLaughlin, Dr. Hugh Praytor, Mr. James Cantrell, Mr. John Dale, Mr. Raymond Boykin, and members of the Robert Strong Class at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
