Walter A. Palmer Waycross, GA N/A Age Approx. Date of Death 90 01/05/2008 Notice Walter Alfred Palmer Walter Alfred Palmer, 90, of Waycross died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2008) at Baptist Village. He was born Feb. 1, 1917 in Jacksonville, Fla. to the late Alfred Palmer and Georgia Weathersbee. He was a 1940 graduate of The Citadel University. Shortly after graduation from The Citadel he enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army he served during World War II as a B-29 bomber pilot in the 504th Bomb Group. One of his greatest joys was attending the 504th Bomb Group’s yearly reunions that were held all over the United States. He was retired from the United States Post Office where he worked as a mail clerk. He was a member of Brooks United Methodist Church before moving his membership to First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Waycross Masonic Lodge No. 305 F&AM, Hasan and Waycross Shrine Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Olga Mortonson Palmer. Survivors include his children, Judy Braddy, of Waycross, Al Palmer (and his wife Linda), of Blackshear, Carol Maloch (and her husband Hardy), of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Adams (and her husband Charlie), of Indianapolis, Ind.; and numerous other relatives. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family requests members of the Waycross Masonic Lodge No. 305 F&AM, Hasan and Waycross Shrine Club to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family is gathering at the home of his daughter, Judy Braddy, 604 Kenwood Drive, Waycross.
